Roses are not a man’s Best Friend

Roses are a classic look in the wedding world and I know a lot of couple’s gravitate towards them for the groom and groomsmen to wear on the wedding day.
I am here to tell you although they are a timeless choice, they are not the best. Here are a couple of things that make Roses hard to work with:

Roses are SO top heavy. You need at minimum two flower pins to secure them in place. I have had many weddings where I would have to go and turn the flower back straight. Lots of times you just end up with a flower that looks like it had a few too many before the ceremony and can’t stand on it’s own stem.

This flower is THICK. If the stem breaks there is no turning back. You will need to order backups from your florist just in case. I was pinning a rose on a groomsman at a wedding and it is a thick stem to poke through and the whole top of the flower broke off. There was nothing I could do so we had an usher go without a flower because they didn’t order a backup. Another common issue with this boutonniere type is it bends the pins if not done exactly right. After your florists to leave extra pins behind as backup.

Here is an alternative suggestion if you RRREEAALLLY love that rose look. I would suggest doing a mini rose flower. They have the same look but are much smaller and lighter. I believe they can be the the solution to making your man’s wedding day a little better improved! So he will only be thinking back on the good things and not battling his flower all day.

Who Should Be In My Family Formals on My Wedding Day?

St Paul wedding photography

Family formals on your wedding day are some of the photos you will cherish for years to come. To most brides, including the family is one of the most important parts of the day. More and more brides are doing a first-look with their father before the first look with their groom! (these are real tear jerkers)

Family Formals are the time in the day where you and your families are formally posed to take group photos together. But who should be a part of these photos?? With so many family members to choose from I know it can be hard to narrow it down, but I am here to break it down for you.

I always suggest to my brides to break down family formals to be just immediate family members. This would be children, parents, siblings, and grandparents. I am a firm believer that by limiting formals to these groups of your family you can successfully capture these photos in 30 minutes or less. We want to love on your family during your wedding day and keep everyone happy. Having a shorter shoot time will leave your family in a more enjoyable mood for celebrating your special day. (I see this OVER and over).

But what about all your favorite aunts and uncles and cousins you love?! I hear you. I recommend getting giant photos with extended families to be done during the cocktail hour or reception time. It is a lot more laid back feel and everyone is guaranteed to be there!

This small adjustment to your family list will help make your day flow more smoothly and be more enjoyable!

I know the list of things needed for your wedding can be very overwhelming. Marking and checking off all the little details will all be worth it in the end I PROMISE! But in 2020 there is one thing you should add to your list if you haven’t; a Bridal Veil! Below are only a couple of reasons why I think veils are for all brides!

You will hear me singing the praises of veils until the end of time but please continue reading if you are on the fence of adding a veil to your wedding day.

CLASSIC

Bridal veils are classic. A wedding veil is one accessory that will never go out of style in the weddings. I am a personal believer that a simple veil will make your wedding day timeless. They have been a part of weddings since the 17th century; It is not going anywhere! I am particularly in love with the cathedral veils. Keeping it simple will carry the look alone on through generations of family viewing.

CLASSY

Bridal veils are classy. Some things in life just bring elegance and class with them in any setting. Like adding a strand of pearls to any outfit, adding a beautiful veil to your wedding dress elevates your entire bridal look. This is not only in your photos; photos just capture what is already there. I am a firm believer that no matter the venue a bridal veil can work anywhere.

THE WOW FACTOR

Bridal veils add the wow factor. Have you ever watched “Say Yes To The Dress?” When the store assosiate thinks the bride has finally found “The One” (the dress and the man!) they bring out a veil to finish the look. THE REASON IS IT BRINGS OUT THE WOW FACTOR! Not only does this finished look make you feel more like the bride of your dreams but it also will leave your future hubby and guests speechless from your beautiful completed look.

ROMANTIC VIBES

One of the biggest reasons I love wedding veils on my brides is that it gives off big romantic vibes. I think it translates in your photos the best. Veils always remind me of a real life fairytale coming to be.

I hope this blog gives you new insight on why you should add a wedding veil to your day!
