Roses are not a man’s Best Friend

Roses are a classic look in the wedding world and I know a lot of couple’s gravitate towards them for the groom and groomsmen to wear on the wedding day.
I am here to tell you although they are a timeless choice, they are not the best. Here are a couple of things that make Roses hard to work with:

Roses are SO top heavy. You need at minimum two flower pins to secure them in place. I have had many weddings where I would have to go and turn the flower back straight. Lots of times you just end up with a flower that looks like it had a few too many before the ceremony and can’t stand on it’s own stem.

This flower is THICK. If the stem breaks there is no turning back. You will need to order backups from your florist just in case. I was pinning a rose on a groomsman at a wedding and it is a thick stem to poke through and the whole top of the flower broke off. There was nothing I could do so we had an usher go without a flower because they didn’t order a backup. Another common issue with this boutonniere type is it bends the pins if not done exactly right. After your florists to leave extra pins behind as backup.

Here is an alternative suggestion if you RRREEAALLLY love that rose look. I would suggest doing a mini rose flower. They have the same look but are much smaller and lighter. I believe they can be the the solution to making your man’s wedding day a little better improved! So he will only be thinking back on the good things and not battling his flower all day.

Engagement Photos at Saint Paul Public Library with Randal & Beth!

Randal and Beth’s story is a good slow burn. They had been in each other’s radar, both attending the same church. For years people in their lives did their best to ship this couple, but Randal and Beth weren’t having it. They both didn’t think it was worth pursuing, until about a year ago. Beth is the music director and she orchestrated a group that had them both performing a couple of songs. There was one song in particular they bonded over how much they hated it! From there their interest in each other grew. They started hanging out more and more with long conversations; attraction grew and they decided to see what everyone was talking about. After dating they both agreed, that their relationship was all in God’s timing. He had plans to mold each of them to be ready for this relation to work at this time in life. I think that is really cool.

We celebrated Randal and Beth’s Engagement session at Saint Paul Public Library! If you can’t tell by just the photos, I loved shooting at this location! It is fun to incorporate a piece of Saint Paul’s history in our photos! I am looking forward to serving these two more at their wedding later this summer. Katie & Sean Celebrate their Engagement at Excelsior Pier!

Katie and Sean meet online. After talking back and forth, they decided to finally meet in person. It was an impressive feat as Sean was not from the Twin cities! Katie was visiting family in his area and they took the opportunity to get together. Their first date was at a brewery. They both commented on how quickly the date seemed to go. Before they knew it hours and hours had passed. I love when your are just with the right person, time doesn’t seem to matter. Katie was pleased and taken aback on how respectful Sean was to her needs that first day when she had to take care of some family stuff. Things obviously went exceedingly well and it wasn’t too long before Sean made the move to Minneapolis to plan a future with Katie.
When it was decided to take the next step to marriage, Sean had it all planned out. They were going to go to Katie’s favorite spot by a willow tree and propose. Katie' didn’t know if he was going to propose, but Katie’s best friend made her go out and get their nails done “Just in Case”. I think we all need a friend like that in our lives. Sean really wanted to go on a walk before their dinner reservation. All afternoon Katie had been sending GIFS on how tired she was. After a little bit of loving encouragement on Sean’s part, Katie finally put on mismatched socks and her Birks for their walk and enjoyed the outdoor air. They walk was anything but leisurely stroll as Katie noted Sean was BOOKING IT. As they finally reached their spot, Sean proposed to Katie and she said yes! A family member were their in the bushes to capture to happy occasion! After dinner a second surprise happened, there was a planned engagement party with all their friends and family.

For our time together at the engagement session, we meet at the Port of Excelsior! It has been an unseasonably warm winter here in Minnesota, but the chill off the water still went straight to the bones. Katie and Sean had the best attitudes! It made our session so fun to just laugh and talk about their upcoming wedding! They really want their wedding day to be a reflection of their faith and glorify God in their action.
